Lawmaker Tasks Govt On Collapsed Bridge

The governor of Lagos State, South West Nigeria, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, has been called upon to help rectify the collapsed pedestrian bridge at Alaba bus stop along Oshodi-Mile 2 Expressway.

Mrs. Risikat Ajoke Adeniyi-Adegeye, who represents Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the call yesterday, when she was recalled from recess by her people that vehicles were instantly killing people at the spot.

The lawmaker, who disclosed that two people were knocked down at the spot on Monday, appealed to the state goverment to assist her people by finding a palliative measure to the bridge which, she said, collapsed about eight months ago.

She said that when the bridge collapsed, she called the attention of the Federal Government to it, but it was ignored, adding that since most of those affected are from his constituency, she raised the motion for the state government’s aid on the floor of the Assembly.

According to the Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, “to my surprise, nothing has been done till date while trailers and other vehicles continue to knock my people down. I will rather spend money on poverty alleviation and empowerment than burials.

“So many lives had been lost at that spot as my people have no alternative than to dash across the highway since there is no pedestrian bridge. So, I appeal to our action governor to come to our aid immediately.”
