Education Is My Priority —Abike Dabiri
A member of the House of Representatives, Abike Dabiri-Erewa (ACN-Lagos) says she places emphasis on education in the execution of her constituency projects because “it breeds development and growth.’’
Erewa said this in Ikorodu, Lagos State, while inaugurating four out of eight blocks of classrooms she attracted to her constituency in Ikorodu through the “MDGs Quick Wins” projects for 2008/2009.
The benefiting schools are the Ipakodo and Yewa Junior Secondary Schools and the Lasunwon and Aga Primary Schools, all in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Dabiri-Erewa said the best legacy she wanted to live behind was to ensure that all pupils and children in her constituency were adequately educated with the provision of the necessary infrastructure.
She said that the only way out of the numerous problems facing the country was to ensure that everybody was well educated through adequate funding of education, “as an educated nation is a healthy nation.’’
“For me, education is my priority. I want to see to it, if possible, that every child in my constituency is educated. That, to me, is the only way to banish poverty, ill health, create wealth and engender development,’’ she added.
Dabiri, who is the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on the Diaspora, used the opportunity to explain that lawmakers were not given money for the execution of constituency projects, which she said, were being executed by the MDGs office in the Presidency.
