Lack Of Fund Delays COWLSO’s Retiree Villa
If the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials, COWLSO can layb its hands on some N60 million, it will be able to complete the building of the proposed Retiree Villa meant to be a place of relaxation for retirees across the state.
Chairman of COWLSO, Mrs Abimbola Fashola, said the villa is about 60 per cent completed but that the committee needed more money to complete the project. The overall cost of the project is N285 millio.
She stated that COWLSO would be looking for money to complete the project as soon as possible and hand it over to retirees so that they could go there to have fun and relax.
Mrs Fashola spoke in Lagos to announce its forthcoming 10th National Women Conference schedule for the new Expo Hall, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos between 27 and 29 October, 2010.
“We have remained committed to the objectives of this conference which are mainly to provide a platform to discuss women issues and also apply funds generated from donations and fees towards the construction and renovation of recreational centres.
“Presently, work is ongoing on our Retiree Villa in Lekki and it is over 60 per cent completed.  It is our desire to realise this project as soon as possible.  Upon completion, the villa will add to the list of already completed recreational centres,†she stated.
The theme of this year’s conference is Celebrating the Passionate Woman and has several sub-themes such as Ways to Healthier Lifestyle; Keeping the Home Front; Dress for Success; Being the best of You and Women and Environment, to be handled by seasoned professional women.
According to COWLSO chairman, Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State will declare the conference open while Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State will declare it  closed.
Mrs Fashola explained that the various sessions at the conference would be conducted in a panel format as against its usual practice of having one speaker delivering a paper on the sub-theme and related topics.
“A major highlight of the opening ceremony is the presentation of the Inspirational Woman of the year award.  This year’s award will be presented to Justice Aloma Mukhtar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.  She is being honoured for her remarkable achievements as the first female justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria,†she stated.
She disclosed that about 1, 200 participants were expected at the conference, with each of them paying a registration fee of N40,000.  This sums up to N48 million gross revenue expected to be generated through registration alone.
