Lagos Police Foil 3 Robbery Attempts, Arrest 2 Suspects

The Lagos State police command says it foiled three armed robbery operations in  different parts of the state at the weekend.

Police spokesman, Frank Mba told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that two  suspected armed robbers were arrested in one of the attempted operations.

Mba said the first robbery operation was foiled on Friday on Eko Bridge by some  policemen attached to the CBN.

He said the policemen, who were escorting a CBN vehicle, had a gun battle with the  suspected robbers, stressing that one revolver pistol with eight live ammunition was  recovered while the suspects escaped.

The police spokesman said the second robbery attempt was foiled later at Mazamaza on  old Ojo road where the two suspects were arrested.

Mba said the robbery gang attempted to rob residents of Navy Town of about N69,000.

He said that a revolver pistol with seven live ammunition and a motorcycle were  recovered from the suspects.

“There was another shootout by the police and a gang of robbers on Saturday at  about 2 a.m. at Alaba International Market in Ojo area of Lagos.

“The suspected armed robbers succumbed to the superior power of the police gun and  abandoned their mission, but 34 AK-47 magazines and 24 live ammunition were  recovered,” Mba said.

He said the cases had been transferred to the state Special Anti-Robbery Squad,  Ikeja, for further investigation.
