Lagos Sacks 14 Workers For Stealing, Absenteeism

The Lagos State Government has sacked 14 workers over alleged stealing, fraud and  absenteeism from work without due permission.

The culprits were made to face the Personnel Management Board, PMB, the disciplinary  body in the state civil service and were found wanting and kicked out.

According to the September edition of the Lagos State in-house newspaper, Alausa  Alert, the affected officers’ rank ranged from grade level 7 to 15.

A senior accountant on grade level 10 had his appointment terminated for diverting  official fund to the tune of N1.02 million for personal use being Parastatal  Monitoring Office, PMO, fund entrusted to him.

Another grade level 7 officer was sacked for his involvement in a fertilizer deal  amounting to N1.05 million, land racketeering and unauthorized absence from work  without permission.

Also, a Senior Traffic Superintendent was dismissed for demanding gratification,  while a Traffic Officer II was sacked for absenting himself from duty without leave  or permission, refusing posting and failure to honour an invitation to appear before  the PMB.

A chief typist on grade level 9 was also sacked for falsification of medical  documents to cover up a period of absence, insubordination and inefficiency while a  station manager, assistant scientific officer on grade level 13 was booted out for  engaging the services of non-staff in the operation of the centre.

Likewise, a traffic superintendent was dismissed for defrauding an offender to the  tune of N22,400 and performing illegal duty.

Seven others were sacked for absenting themselves from duty without leave or  reasonable cause.

The Head of Service, Mr. Adesegun Ogunlewe, had warned that the state would not  tolerate corruption among civil servants, adding that the state government was bent  on fighting it.
