A Lagos resident, Mr. Adewunmi Abiodun Quham, 36, is currently standing trial beforeÂ the Ebute-Metta Magistrateâ€™s Court, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Nigeria, for the allegedÂ murder of a former councillor and leader of the legislative arm of Ikorodu WestÂ Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Idowu Aro.
The accused was said to have conspired with others now at large to murder the lateÂ councillor on 15 September, 2010, at his residence on Idowu Aro Close, Majidun,Â Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The police charged him with a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder, offencesÂ punishable under Sections 324 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol.2, LawsÂ of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
Count two of the charge reads: â€œThat you, Adewunmi Abiodun Quham and others now atÂ large, on 15 September, 2010, on Idowu Aro Close, Majidun, Ikorodu, in the LagosÂ Magisterial District, harmed yourself with dangerous weapons and murdered one IdowuÂ Aro, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319(1) of theÂ Criminal Code, Cap. C. 17, Vol.2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.â€
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Chief Magistarate, Miss M.F.Â Kayode, directed that he should be remanded in prison custody till 22 October, 2010,Â when the case comes up for trial.
Late Idowu Aro was allegedly murdered in his home on 15 September, 2010, by unknownÂ gunmen.
