Man Faces Trial Over Murder Of Councillor

A Lagos resident, Mr. Adewunmi Abiodun Quham, 36, is currently standing trial before  the Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Nigeria, for the alleged  murder of a former councillor and leader of the legislative arm of Ikorodu West  Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Idowu Aro.

The accused was said to have conspired with others now at large to murder the late  councillor on 15 September, 2010, at his residence on Idowu Aro Close, Majidun,  Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The police charged him with a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder, offences  punishable under Sections 324 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol.2, Laws  of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

Count two of the charge reads: “That you, Adewunmi Abiodun Quham and others now at  large, on 15 September, 2010, on Idowu Aro Close, Majidun, Ikorodu, in the Lagos  Magisterial District, harmed yourself with dangerous weapons and murdered one Idowu  Aro, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319(1) of the  Criminal Code, Cap. C. 17, Vol.2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Chief Magistarate, Miss M.F.  Kayode, directed that he should be remanded in prison custody till 22 October, 2010,  when the case comes up for trial.

Late Idowu Aro was allegedly murdered in his home on 15 September, 2010, by unknown  gunmen.
