NBBF Probes Age Scandal
The board of Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, last weekend rose from its emergency board meeting held in Abuja with plans to probe the recent age scandal involving a Nigerian player.
The Tijani Umar-led board considered pressing issues including the disciplinary case against Moses, one of the national U-18 players to the just concluded FIBA-Africa Championship held in Kigali, Rwanda.
The board, while reaffirming its zero tolerance to cutting corners in any of its activities, endorsed the ongoing investigation into the scandal case against Moses, stating that at the conclusion of the investigation, the board will issue an official statement.
The board also approved the dissolution of the league board after the successful conclusion of the 2009/2010 NBBF/DSTV Premier League season, thanking members of the outgoing board for their dedication to work.
President of NBBF, Umar, called for nomination of club’s representatives from the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences, coaches and referees’ council into the league board for the 2010/2011 season.
This the board believes will hasten preparations for the new season billed to dunk-off in November or December this year.
Umar, who is also the 3rd Vice President of Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, said sponsor of the league, MultiChoice Nigeria, is pleased with the format of the Nigerian league, which is in conformity with the rest of the world.
The 10-Man League Board will have one representative each from clubs in the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences, the Coaches’ council, Referees’ council and the sponsor.
Four will come from the NBBF, two from each of the Atlantic and Savannah Conference while the chairman of the technical committee of the NBBF, Muktar Adamu Khaleh, will be the chairman of the League Board.
