Flood Victim Gives Birth At Relief Camp

It was joy yesterday at the Lagos State Government Relief Camp at Agbowa, Epe area of Lagos State, South West Nigeria when one of the Ajegunle flood victims gave birth to a baby girl in the camp.

The camp is being supervised by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA and is caring for about 1,000 displaced people.

The woman, Mrs. Uchechi Victor, was delivered of her baby at exactly 1.14 pm on Monday, while she is currently receiving post-natal attention at Agbowa General Hospital, Agbowa.

The young mother, who is 19 years old, whose husband is also in the camp, was in a very stable condition as at press time.

She was full of gratitude to God, the Lagos State Government and LASEMA for the efficiency of its medical team.

“I thank all the staff of LASEMA at the camp, all the nurses here and Governor Fashola for taking very good care of me.

“My good God will bless all of you. I don’t know what to say but to just continue saying thank you and God bless all of you including the State Government,”she said.

Uchechi was the first to be delivered of a baby among the many pregnant women in the camp.

The General Manager/Chief Executive Officer, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, expressed happiness over the development, saying “we rejoice with the family and we thank God for giving us life and not death.”

Earlier, the training officer of the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Mr. Oladimeji Ige, had led officials to the camp on a solidarity and inspection visit.

He commended LASEMA and the Lagos State Government for giving timely succour to the flood victims, promising to forward his observations and request for assistance to the headquarters.
