The National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Dr. Boniface O. Aniebonam has expressed concern about the uneasy calm in the ports in Nigeria as a result of the activities of the National Task Force.
The chieftain of freight forwarders and national leader of the NNPP stated this during a press briefing recently at the party’s secretariat in Apapa Lagos.
“The NNPP is worried because of the apprehension of the industry stakeholders who believe that the operation of the National Task Force will impede the smooth flow of international trade leading to extortion, delays and duplication of functions of the various security agencies in Nigerian seaports and approved border stations,” Aniebonam said.
He stated that adding another agency to the existing ones will no doubt make the 48-hour clearance process almost unachievable.
He urged government to pay attention to the clamour of the stakeholders for a reduction in the number of government agencies in the ports instead of adding to them.
