Four Men Land In Prison For Stealing N14m Goods

Four men, Pius Yakubu Joshua, 34, Umoru Emmanuel, 24, Olasiyan Tamo, 40 and Sunday Ejike, 50, are currently standing trial before the Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, Nigeria on a four-count charge of felony, buglary, stealing and receiving stolen goods.

They were alleged to have committed the offence at the premises of Interkel Nigeria Limited, 3/4, Kudirat Abiola Road, Oregun, Lagos on 23 April, 2010.

While Yakubu, Umoru and Olasiyan are facing a three-count charge of felony, burglary and stealing, the fourth accused, Sunday Ejike, who was arrested at Anambra State was charged with receiving stolen goods worth N14,631,000, found in his shop at the Electrical Dealers International Market, KM 5, Onitsha, Owerri Road, Anambra State on 24 September, 2010.

Items allegedly stolen by the accused include 100 metre cooper tape, 47 pieces of earth rods, 430 metres of earth cable, 56 visafone bulbs, 4 pieces of NLS and HIS cables, security light bulbs, seven pieces of rectifor batteries, 66 pieces of rectifier batteries, 57 pieces of earth rods, 12 pieces of north star rectifier batteries, 400 metres of 70 mm earth cables 2,962.5 metre of NCA 4 mm x of core cable, 2 generator batteries, one vehicle battery, 1,000 metre of black and red cable, 316 metre of 70mm bare red cooper, 5 flat screen LCD television sets,etc.

The offences, according to the police are punishable under Sections 516 (1), 413 (1) (2), 390 (9) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Volume 2, Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and they were granted bail in the sum of N1 million each by Mrs. A.O. Ogala, the magistrate of the court.
