Never in recent times have stakeholders in the country’s automobile sub-sector converged to champion a common cause intended at fostering the speedy growth and development of the automotive industry, than the just concluded 6th Lagos auto fair, even when some key players such as Dana Motors, marketers of Kia range of vehicles; Coscharis Motors, the BMW, Ford and Rover dealers; CFAO group, marketers of Nissan, Chevrolet and Renault brand of vehicles opted out.
The loyalty of other stakeholders who participated in the show injected some measure of hope into the sub-sector. Those who lent credence to the show include Stallion Motors representative of Audi, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Skoda and Honda range of vehicles, PAN, National Trucks Manufacturers Limited, Kano, Toyota Nigeria Limited, Asian Motors and Saipa Group. New sensation automobile magazine Motor Trend Africa provided the players the desired coverage.
Kenneth Mgbeokwere of Asian Motors acknowledged the success of the show which he said wasn’t even given adequate publicity. He wished the inquiries made during the show transform to sales in due course. In the same vein, Schola Ezeanekwe, Senior Sales Executive, SA Canopy – a subsidiary of Mandilas Autos applauded the organisers of the show for providing such platform for stakeholders, saying it was a remarkable way to get its products to the doorstep of prime users.
And for PAN Nigeria, M.B Usman, the fair was another opportunity to explore the markets. To the facilitators, this, of course, is good news as chances of participation in subsequent motor shows brightens.
Mr Ifeanyichukwu Agwu, M.D. BKG Exhibition said:
“There might have been some noticeable challenges in this edition both from inside and outside. However we all need to up the tempo of our individual and collective contributions to seeing to the success of this auto show. We have started addressing the challenges. Our assurance to you all is that come the 7th edition in April/May 2012 you will have a highly improved Lagos Motor Fair that will live up to expectations.
But until the facilitators put heads together to bring the stakeholders together under one roof in an elaborate setting that would attract foreign participation, motor shows organised in this country would remain a far cry from similar shows staged abroad, John Owolabi, a stakeholder posited.
