The police in Lagos have arrested four men who invaded a cow farm located at Abule Eko area of Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria and stole 19 cows while armed with dane guns and other dangerous weapons.
They allegedly sold the cows for N50,000.
The suspects were arraigned before the Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court on a four-count charge of committing felony, to wit armed robbery, an offence contrary to Section 6 (a) and punishable under Section 1 (2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provision) Act, Cap. 398, Vol. X411, Laws of the Federation, 2004 and Section 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap.117, Vol.11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.
The accused are Hammed Adamu (the leader of the gang), Abdullahi Atiku, a security man at the farm; Abdullahi Aliu and Mohammed Abdullahi.
The buyers of the stolen cows, identified as Mrs. Iyabo Alao, alias Iya Kubura and Mrs. Adeola Adedayo, alias Iya Akure, were also arraigned in court. Both are dealers in cows and rams in Ondo town.
P.M.NEWS investigations revealed that the accused sold the 19 cows for N50,000, instead of N3.8 million, the actual worth of the cows in the open market.
Count 2, 3 and 4 read: ”That you, Hammed Adamu, Abdullahi Atiku Mohammed Abdullahi and others at large on the same date time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district on 12 September, 2010, while armed with guns and dangerous weapons did rob one Alhaji Bolaji Raimi of his 19 cows, valued at N3.8 million and sold same to Mrs. Iyabo Alao and Adeola Adedayo.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, Mr. P.A. Ojo, ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison custody, pending the advice from the office of the public prosecutor.
The magistrate granted the two women bail in the sum of N250,000 each and adjourned the matter till 25 November, 2010.
