Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State yesterday gave an account of his stewardship for the past three years at the Civic Centre, Port Harcourt, to a very large crowd of people.
Summarising the total amount received in the last three years, Amaechi said the state received N109 billion internally generated revenue while he received from the Federation Account N723.9 billion. From other sources, he said the state received N11.3 billion while all revenues totalled N845.17 billion.
Under recurrent expenditure, Amaechi said the state has spent N177.4 billion while the capital expenditure was N643.5 billion. The total expenditure the state government has incurred is N821.17 billion.
Governor Amaechi told Rivers people that the state has N25 billion in its savings account as a result of a compulsory saving legislation which the administration passed into law. It stipulates that the state must save N1 billion every month which cannot be spent except the state House of Assembly approved it.
Amaechi said he has transformed education, health, road, infrastructure and has provided security for lives and property where people can move at night freely and enjoy themselves.
On inadequate power supply, Amaechi said the problem was not power generation as more power than the population could consume was generated.
To combat distribution problem, Governor Amaechi disclosed that his government was importing 2,000 transformers while 500 communities will be supplied with electricity.
