Police Shoot Their Way Into Oba’s Palace, Arrest 9

The Oba-elect of Somolu Bariga, Oba Gbolahan Timson, and his entire family members  narrowly escaped death yesterday when policemen led by a DPO, shot their way into  his palace.

P.M.NEWS investigation revealed that policemen attached to Bariga Division stormed  the oba’s palace, shooting sporadically. Several people were injured as theye  scampered into safety after which 9 people including a student of Lagos State  University were taken to the station and later transferred to Special Anti-Robbery  Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Lagos.

According to Oba Timson, “the DPO, CSP Ibrahim Fashesan, was specially hired with  his team to ensure my life was terminated and my palace burnt down. He is being used  by a retired police officer.

“These policemen almost killed me in my bedroom while I was asleep. See the damage  done by the bullets,” he pointed at bullet-riddled windows in his house.

Narrating further to P.M.NEWS what happened, Oba Timson said: “When I heard gun shots  at about 12noon, I quickly rushed out to ascertain what the problem was. I then saw  CSP Fashesan (DPO, Bariga) outside beside a faragon bus and a police pickup van with  a large number of policemen ready to kill.

“I asked the DPO to tell me exactly what had happened and he never listened to me.  He ordered his boys to beat up people in the palace, including a foreigner from  Paris, Mr. Vincent Jasper. The young man was bleeding profusely.

“My driver, security guards, a Lagos State University (LASU) student and others were  arrested. “What I learnt was that some hoodlums caused mayhem at Ilaje and that the  policemen suspected that the hoodlums might be from the palace.

“The DPO also lied that those arrested attempted to snatch guns from him and other  policemen and that they were also beaten.”

P.M.NEWS further gathered that those being detained in the cell are Kabiru  (student), Lekan , Ismail Adetunji, Arise (security man), Osase, Saliu (security  man).

A70-year old man, Hon. Omosebi Olayemi, a former member of the Lagos State House of  Assembly during Governor Lateef Jakande’s era, was also battered.

When P.M.NEWS contacted the police spokesperson, Supol Frank Mba on phone this  morning, he said: “I have not been briefed about the incident.”
