An Imo High Court in Ikeduru Local Government Area, Imo State, presided by Justice T.N. Nzeukwu Wednesday discharged the injunction restraining the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its congresses to elect state and local government executives.

Another judge in the state high court, Justice Ngozi Opara, had earlier granted an interim injunction stopping the party from holding its congresses pending the outcome of a suit filed by Mr. Peter Ezenwa Orji and others against PDP and others in suit No. HMI/120/2009.

During the hearing on Wednesday, counsel to the defendant, Mr. O.A. Obianwu, SAN, urged the court to discharge the order and gave various reasons and grounds for that application.

After hearing counsels to both the plaintiff and defendant, the court held that it was equitable and in the interest of justice that the order placed on the congresses be vacated and accordingly vacated the order.

Following this development, the PDP in the state has slated its congresses for today.
