Nigerians have been urged to positively and effectively invest in their children and wards, in order to make them worthy leaders of tomorrow.
They were also enjoined to counsel them from time to time to abstain from abuse of drugs of whatever shade or make, as this would further guarantee them, a long healthy.
These remarks were made by a consultant psychiatrist of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Surulere, Lagos, Dr. Yewande Oshodi at a seminar on drug abuse titled: A Transformative Agenda for Youths Well Being. The event was sponsored by the Mens’ Missionary Union New Dawn Baptist Church, Victoria Island, Lagos, as its contribution, to mark Nigeria’s Golden Jubilee anniversary celebration.
While counselling youths against the abuse of drugs, the scholar and administrator warned them on the negative consequences of such abuse that may distance them from the society. Enumerating several types of drugs and prescriptions, Dr. Oshodi warned that since excess of anything is bad, it behoves on them to administer such drugs according to prescription by a medical authority.
She therefore urged the government to enforce the regulations on the use of such drugs through NAFDAC and other relevant bodies.
She berated the influx of fake drugs into the country, calling for stiffer penalties against offenders.
