The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has told the Federal Government to immediately commence the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and stop using that very dilapidated road as object of ceaseless politicking.
The party says that what the road requires now is quick and urgent attention and not the revelry that has become the pastime of the presidency for many years now.
In a release in Lagos , signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Joe Igbokwe, the party wonders how many more launchings that would be done on the road before it gets the badly needed attention it deserves. The party therefore advises the government and the private company the road was concessioned to stop these revelries and start in earnest the reconstruction of that critical road.
“We are alarmed that a third ‘launchingâ€
“We recall that former President Obasanjo launched the rehabilitation of the road in his first term and this ended up as a mere splashing of Obasanjoâ€
According to the party, “As we speak, there is fresh mobilization for another launching of the take off of the road and yet another round of revelry is about taking place. There are plans for President Goodluck Jonathan to launch another take off and we dare ask if these series of launchings are just for one road. We ask how many launchings it will take to start the repair of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway? We want to know why the road has become an object of continuous vain celebrations and why no concrete action is being taken on the road from 1999 till date.
“We are demanding that these series of revelries must stop and urgent, comprehensive works should commence on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway immediately. We ask Bi Courtney to move to site immediately and carry out the reconstruction of that very important road. We ask the Jonathan government to ensure that the company is put on its toes to deliver a world class road, in line with the concession agreement. We ask for seriousness in the reconstruction of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and we believe that the critical nature of that essential highway demands that the road be upgraded to a world class standard. We insist that these endless launchings must stop and work must begin now.â€
