There’ s Democratic Procedure In ACN —Akande

Against the backdrop of a rumoured imposition of candidates in the Action Congress of Nigeria, (ACN) Lagos State, a chieftain of the party, Chief Ayo Akande has declared that the party has not endorsed any candidate for any elective post in the state.

Chief Akande, who pointed out in an interview that the ACN had laid down democratic procedures of picking candidates for elective positions, said the party has not opened its gate for such exercise.

According to him, “election of candidates from the pool of aspirants will go through a democratic procedure put in place by the party. Aspirants will signify their interest when the gate is thrown open. The leadership of the party will tell us when that gate is to be opened, probably in the next few weeks,” he said.

He noted that when the time comes, the sectoral leadership would discuss with the aspirants on the need to be disciplined and follow the rules and regulations of the party, since only a candidate would emerge as the party flag bearer for a particular elective position.

Akande said that rubbing minds with the aspirants before the real election of candidates was necessary to ensure understanding and peace within the party. “A good leader will not want his house in disarray,” he added.

The party chieftain who was optimistic that the party’s leadership would do everything possible to promote peaceful conduct of election primaries said democracy could be made simple and easy by a positive and matured arrangement, adding that “we will get it right arriving at our candidates, from the ward level  to the governorship level”. He described the ACN as the most democratic in the country as it parades the most loyal and progressive members.
