The hitherto frosty relationship between the executive and legislative arms in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, has been attributed to fifth columnists who are bent on destabilising the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) before the 2011 polls.

This observation was made by a commissioner designate and aspirant to the House of Representatives, Mr. Bosun Jeje, who commended Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for quickly wading into the matter.

According to Jeje, who wishes to represent Kosofe Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, the root cause of the political quagmire, which was a fraud allegation by a group known as True Face of Lagos, against Governor Babatunde Fashola, was a figment of the imagination of the accusers.

“To me, those behind these problems are fifth columnists who have planted themselves in our party to destabilise our preparation for the 2011 general elections. They have forgotten that the governor is the property of the party and the nation.

“Moreso, there are no ill feelings whatsoever between our great leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Fashola as being widely rumoured. I must tell you that attempts by fifth columnists to put asunder the father and son relationship failed woefully,” Jeje stated.

The lawyer and environmental management expert turned politician also said there was nothing wrong with the state House of Assembly exercising its oversight function by acting as a check on the executive as stated in the Constitution, regretting that the issue was exaggerated by enemies within.

Jeje, who is the patron of The Nucleus Group (TNG), a non-government organisation and chairman, Council of Past Presidents of Rotary Club District 9110, said he has decided to surrender himself for service to his people by aspiring for a seat at the National Assembly.
