Yoruba Youths Congratulate Fayemi

Yoruba youths under the aegis of the Coordinating Council of Oodua Self Determination Groups, COSEG, has congratulated the new Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on his victory at the appeal court and his commitment to implement free and qualitative education, free healthcare system and provision of social welfare for the old people.

In their communiqué issued at the end of the 7th All Yoruba Youth Conference held in Lagos, the group called on youths to reject any attempt by politicians to use them as thugs during the forthcoming elections.

The youths appealed to members of the Lagos State House of Assembly and their counterparts in Ogun State to face squarely the business of lawmaking and their oversight functions in the interest of our people, rather than stirring dissent and unhealthy bickering that will hinder the development of the states.

They also commended the infrastructural and environmental development being witnessed in Lagos State and enjoined Action Congress of Nigeria members in the state to ensure that the incumbent governor, Babatunde Fashola, is voted in for a second term.

Delivering a paper entitled: “The Misuse of Oversight Roles of Legislatures in Modern Democracy: A Case Study of Nigeria,” at the conference, a Lagos lawyer, Mr. Wahab Shittu accused the country’s legislators of self serving and failing to protect the interest of the electorate.

He described most of them as businessmen who did not have the interest of their people at heart.

“Most assembly men are businessmen.  We should pass a vote of no confidence on them. They are not representing us, rather what they are doing is to line their pockets. They are toothless bulldogs and errand boys of the executive because they cannot check their excesses. They have failed to hold the executive accountable to the people,” he stated.
