The police in Lagos have arrested six robbery suspects who allegedly broke into a warehouse at Kirikiri area of Apapa, Lagos State, Nigeria.
The suspects were arraigned before the Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a four-count charge of armed robbery, an offence contrary to Section 6(b) and punishable under Sections 1 and 2(a) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provision) Act, Cap.398, Vol. XXII, Laws of the Federation, 2004 and sections 319(1) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The police alleged that the accused broke into a warehouse belonging to ICE Investment Company at 136, Happy Home Street, Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos on 28 August, 2010 and looted 600 cartons of Titus sardines, valued at N4.8 million and killed the security man, identified as Mohammed Yusuf, guarding the warehouse and escaped.
The accused were identified as Amechi Peters, Ignatius Nnamani, Hamisu Adamu, Chinedu James, Emeka Obi and Yahaya Lampa.
They were arrested at FESTAC area of Lagos following a tip off by members of the public.
Count two and three read: ”That you, Amechi Peters, Ignatius Nnamani, Hamisu Adamu, Chinedu James, Emeka Obi and Yahaya Lampo and others at large on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district while armed with daggers, axes, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons robbed ICE Investment Company Ltd. of 600 cartons of sardines, valued at N4.8 million and killed the security man, Mohammed Yusuf.
The presiding magistrate refused to take the pleas of three of the accused and ordered them remanded in prison custody.
He granted bail to the other accused in the sum of N20,000 each with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the matter till a later date.
