Rain, Inefficiency Stalled Our Road Projects —Fashola
Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, has revealed that the increased volume of rain and inefficiency stalled road construction and rehabilitation in the state.
Speaking at the weekend, the governor said despite this, the state government did not stop the construction and repair of roads during the rainy season.
According to him, repair works are still ongoing, adding that the process would get better now “because it would be easier to manufacture and mix the necessary ingredients for road works.â€
“It was difficult to continue construction of roads during rainy season. It was not efficient. There were wastages. There was loss; there was inefficiency. We could never have stopped and we won’t stop,†he said.
However, speaking on what to expect from his chairmanship of the committee saddled with the task of fashioning out modalities for the emergence of a new Chairman for the Governors’ Forum, Fashola said the minimum to expect from the committee was a credible and democratic process.
“As leaders in our various states, we can show leadership from the front by ensuring that the process by which our body is led is democratically compliant,†he stated.
On efforts being made to consolidate on gains made in terms of security, especially during the ‘ember’ months, Fashola said the government had not stopped and that tremendous progress was being made as the government would not rest on its oars.
“We do not look for successes, we look for problems. We are continually reviewing and refining our strategies,†he added.
The governor urged all Lagosians to remain law abiding and vigilant, adding that it was not government alone, but teamwork which requires the citizens to continue to support security operatives.
“Just before I travelled to Abuja, we had a security meeting. We will continue to do our best to protect every life entrusted into our care. We need the cooperation of Lagosians to be law-abiding, tolerant, peaceful and vigilant,†he appealed.
