For allegedly causing the death of a 58-year-old man, a bus driver was on Monday docked at an Apapa Senior Magistrate’s Court for manslaughter.
The driver, Jimoh Olupo, is facing a two-count charge of reckless driving and causing the death of Mufutau Bello.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused drove a Toyota Hiace bus along Badagry Expressway, Lagos, on October 25 in a reckless manner and caused the death of Bello.
“The accused drove in a dangerous manner without regards to other road users, resulting in the death of the victim,’’ Inedu said.
He explained that the offence contravened Section 27 of the Road Traffic Act (RTA)Â and is punishable under Regulation 103 (1), Cap.124, Vol. 6, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and Senior Magistrate Amos Adeyemi granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, he directed, should be above 40 years of age and must be blood relations of the accused.
The matter has been adjourned till Nov. 29 for further hearing.
