Amuwo Odofin Council Chief Commends Staff
Chairman, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, South West Nigeria, Mr. Ayodele Adewale, has commended the staff of the council for their cooperation which made the successful implementation of the 2010 budget possible.
Speaking at the 2011 budget retreat held at the Whispering Palms Resort, Ajido, Adewale appraised the outgoing year and concluded that the last budget succeeded because he received the much needed support from the council staff.
He assured of the performances of the various sectors of the economy, praising the spirit of cooperation exhibited by the civil servants, their admirable contributions and sacrifices displayed by the community leaders in Amuwo Odofin, without which he said he could not have achieved much.
The council boss also recalled efforts at peaceful coexistence of religious leaders and various nationalities.
Adewale thanked his cabinet for a wonderful team work towards the success of the administration.
Recalling that at the inception of the administration, internally generated revenue was so poor it was hardly enough for any meaningful infrastructure development. But since a consultancy firm, Fortress Valley was contracted, he said the council’s IGR has increased by over 400 per cent.
Increment of rates and levies, Adewale said, were approved by the Lagos State government and based on the aforementioned indices, he said the 2011 appropriation bill has been valued at N5 billion to take care of the citizens’ welfare.
On health, Adewale said in 2010, the administration introduced free drugs and partnered with laboratory firms to rehabilitate and upgrade its health centres including those in the riverine areas of the council.
Before next month, he said, 70 medical doctors would be hired through the National Youth Service Corps, with an incentive of N70,000 per head.
He added that very soon, treated mosquito nets would be distributed to members of the community.
Adewale said a number of roads have been rehabilitated or reconstructed including Circular Road, 7th Avenue, 3rd Avenue, 31 and 32 Roads, while those to be fixed after the rainy season, according to him include Crystal Estate and Raji Rasaki Estate, among others.
On education, the council boss said over 90 per cent of public primary schools have be renovated; 220,000 exercise books, 6,000 writing materials and over 13,000 free school uniforms were given to pupils.
Stakeholders at the 2011 budget retreat include Mr. Lanre Akinsola, Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor, who was a resource person on Taxes and Levies; the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Mr. Abayomi Omisore; Mr. Victor Layeni, Council Manager; former Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Abayomi Kiyomi; Alhaji Rasaq Oloyede, Mr. Jola Ogunlusi and Prince Adelani Adeniji-Adele.
Others were Evangelist Ola Albert, a religious leader; Chief Ade Owas, President, Amuwo Odofin Residents Association; the Council Treasurer, Mr. Michael Fajumo and other members of the council’s executive council.
