A businessman, Alhaji Muhammed Abdullahi, 40 has been charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, Nigeria for allegedly abducting an 11-year old girl from school and raping her.
Alhaji Abdullahi was alleged to have gone to the victim’s primary school (names withheld) and took her to his house at 20, Olufemi Street, Egan and had carnal knowledge of her.
In her statement to the police, the victim revealed that the accused had been having sex with her for a long time.
The primary four pupil allegedly told police: “Whenever Alhaji have sex with me, he will tell me not to tell anyone and that he will make my parents rich.â€
The lid was blown off the dastardly act when the victim opened up to her mother that Alhaji Abdullahi has been having sex with her.
The matter was reported to the police and the accused was arrested and charged to court for rape, an offence the police claimed was contrary to Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and the prosecutor, Kunle Shonibare told the court to convict the accused as charged but the mother of the victim wrote a letter asking for the discontinuation of the case.
In her ruling, Magistrate M.B. Folami ruled that since the mother of the victim was no longer interested in the matter, the court has no option but to strike out the matter and she did accordingly.
