Enugu State branch of the Nigeria Road Transport Workers (NURTW) says it was not participating in the NLC and TUC strike because members were not officially notified.
The branch Secretary of the union, Mr. Christian Mortanya, said the union would participate in strike when they receive a signal from NLC.
He said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Enugu that the government did not own them as they were affiliates of labour.
He said that the NLC used to issue a circular to all stakeholders but that in this case, they did not receive anything, so they were still waiting for the apex union.
The treasurer of the Car unit at Ogbete Main Market, Mr. Daniel Mamah, said that they were aware of the strike but they did not want to participate for now because it would adversely affect peopleâ€
“Since it is a warning strike, we have to wait and know how serious they are about the strike,” Mamah added.
The Field Controller, Bus Unit at New Market, Enugu, Mr. Christopher Agu-Eze, said that they did have to go on the three-day warning strike because they had nothing to gain from the government.
“As far as I am concerned, I am not involved in any new minimum wage. Those who are involved should fight for it,” he said.
Agu-Eze said that they would only go on the strike if they are forced to do so.
