The police in Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria have arraigned a man, Nweze Favour before the Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly duping a businesswoman, Onukwuebe Anthonia, of N1,000,000.
In charge No. C/144/10, the police prosecutor alleged that Favour collected the money from Anthonia on the pretext of opening a network of businesses for her at Olodi Apapa, a claim which he knew to be false.
Instead of using the money for this purpose, he allegedly used the money to meet his personal needs.
The offence is punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol.11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and his counsel, A.C. Agwu applied for bail on his behalf.
The presiding magistrate, O.I. Adelaja granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum and directed that the sureties must show proof of employment and their addresses verified by the court.
The matter has been adjourned till 17 December, 2010.
