Man Docked For Breach Of Public Peace

A Lagos resident, John Smith, has been arraigned before the Apapa Magistrate’s  Court, Lagos, Nigeria for wrongly accusing a complainant, Mr. Jude Eke, of having an  affair with his sister-in-law.

The prosecutor, Sgt. O. Benedict, alleged in a two-count charge that Smith conducted  himself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace along Railway Line,  Ijora-Badia on 26 October, 2010.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, is punishable under Section 249 (9) of the  Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol.11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N5,000 and  one surety.

The magistrate also directed that the surety must be employed and his address  verified by the court.

The matter has been adjourned till 17 December, 2010.
