Pay Your Taxes, Pools Agents Urged
President of the Lagos State Pools Agents Association, LASPAA, Major Sammy Ogunyebo (retd.) has called on his members to always fulfill their civic obligation to the Lagos State government by paying their tax and obtaining their operating licence as and when due.
Major Ogunyebo told P.M.NEWS that the administration of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola has been very supportive to the cause of the pools agents in the state, hence the need for the over 20,000 members of the pools agents association, spread across the state, to pay their taxes and obtain their operating licence to enable the government to have funds to provide basic amenities for Lagosians.
The LASPAA president warned that the association, in conjunction with relevant government agencies, would soon raid pools agents who fail to obtain their operating licence.
Another warning went to all dormant zones of the LASPAA to either wake up or risk being sanctioned by the association.
“The agents association will no longer tolerate a situation where a zone will isolate itself from the family of LASPAA. Some zones are holding meetings without sending representatives to LASPAA at the centre.
This will not be tolerated again. The state’s task force led by Mr. George Odulana will soon begin an extensive raiding of the affected zones. This is time around we are having the support of the government to bring erring members to book in accordance with our rules and regulations,†he said.
The president also called on zones owing the association to pay up now. He said that if there is no funds, it will be difficult for the association to prosecute its programme.
“We are following up the proposal we wrote to the state government, which is receiving the attention of Governor Fashola and his senior officials. We cannot do this with empty hands, we need money to run this errand for the association in order to get results,†he said.
