An alleged tout, Oluwatosin Lambo, has been arraigned before the Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Yaba, Lagos for forgery and impersonation.
The accused, the prosecutor alleged, specialises in processing fake marriage/birthday certificates and council receipts for members of the public at the secretariat of the Yaba Local Council Development Area.
He was caught by some staff of Yaba LCDA and handed over to the police for prosecution.
In the three-count charge filed against him, the police alleged that the offences are punishable under sections 508, 430 (1) and 467 (3) (B) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
Count 1 and 2 read: “That you, Oluwatosin Lambo, on 5 October, 2010 in the aforesaid magisterial district unlawfully have in your possession one blank death certificate and one blank birth certificate of Yaba Local Council Development Area, suspected to have been stolen.”
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Demi Ajayi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate also directed that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government.
The accused was remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Apapa on the order of the magistrate when he could not meet his bail conditions on time.
