Thousands of commuters in Lagos yesterday expressed joy at the return of BRT and LAGBUS vehicles to the roads after the suspension of the three-day warning strike embarked upon by workers to drive home their demand for the N18,000 minimum wage.

The joy of the commuters knew no bound when they found  the buses  on the road.

The buses were off the road on Wednesday in compliance with the strike directive issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress.

One of the BRT  commuters, Mrs. Ngozi Okoro, commended the operators of the buses for returning them to the road, saying she spent more than the amount she spent on transport on Wednesday following the withdrawal of the buses.

Another commuter who simply identified himself as Mr. Adesina welcomed the return of the BRT buses, saying the scheme remains the cheapest and decent means of transportation in the Lagos metropolis.

He appealed to Governor Babatunde Fashola to increase the number of buses on the routes to reduce the number of hours commuters spent waiting for the buses.

Another commuter who refused to disclose his name also expressed joy at the return of the buses. ‘”I am happy that the BRT buses have returned. I usually board it from Ikeja to Iyana-Ipaja. But when I did not see them on Wednesday, I was sad. I spent double the money I used to board BRT to board the private commuter buses. I am praying that there will be no strike again,” he said.
