Tope Shitta-Bey, a Mega Progressive People’s Party, MPPP, Lagos State House of Assembly aspirant for Surulere Constituency 01, has vowed to sponsor bills that will be beneficial to the commoners in the state if elected.
Speaking with Political Platform during an interview at Jabita International Hotels, Ikeja, Lagos, the soft-spoken politician said the urge and the need to help the people are part of the reasons he wants to run for the office.
“I feel the urge and the need to help the people. The people are suffering either way you look at it and I believe that the government can do better than they are doing.
“I believe there are more policies to be made and there are more bills to be passed that will impact positively on the lives of the people. Therefore, what we need is to put the right people that will put in place policies that will be benefit the commoners,â€
He said that if elected into the Lagos State House of Assembly, he will tackle the issue of unemployment among the youth and graduates, which he said is on the high side as well as health care and education.
“I fall under the work force or labour force of the economy, which is the more reason why I will tackle the issue of unemployment which is on the high side. Our education and health are nothing to write home about, and these are issues that need to be resolved with utmost urgency.
“I am an accountant and before now, I have been in leadership position and I discharged my duties and responsibilities diligently and effectively. Therefore, there is nothing stopping me from achieving more if given the opportunity,†said the Jabita Intercontinental Hotels accountant.
Speaking on whether the MPPP has the wherewithal to wrest the constituency from the ACN during the elections, he said, “winning an election goes beyond the issue of party. It is not about the party, it is about the individual and what he has to offer the people. The personality and charisma of the person also counts and it is about having the right people in leadership.
