Some youths suspected to be political thugs, in a broad daylight in Katsina on Sunday, snatched N500,000 cash from the Chairman of CPC, Charanchi Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Charanchi.
Charanchi told newsmen in Katsina shortly after the incident that it happened after Sen. Lado Danmarke disbursed N17 million as Sallah gifts to officials of the party from the 34 Local Government Areas of the state.
He said even though the disbursement was carried out under tight security at Sen. Audu Yandoma’s residence in Dandagoro, near Katsina, the exercise witnessed large turn out of political thugs.
According to him, trouble started when some thugs over powered the security agents deployed to the place and snatched the amount from him.
He said the money was the share of the party officials from Charanchi Local Government.
â€Shortly after I collected the money, some thugs from nowhere surrounded me and snatched the money and fled away,†he said.
He added that Sen. Danmarke had to be whisked away by security agents, to prevent them (the thugs) from snatching the huge amount of money in his possession.
