Two men who claimed to be officers of the Nigeria Police have been arrested and charged to Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for impersonation.
James Okeasu, 18 and Sunday John, 24, were arrested at Ikotun-Isolo, Lagos State, where they mounted road block and extorted money from commuter bus drivers.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the duo have been parading themselves as police officers attached to the area.
On the day they were arrested, the defendants were alleged to have mounted road block and were extorting money from the public.
At the station, P.M.NEWS learnt that the men confessed that they were not police officers.
They were charged to court for the offence contrary to Section 516, 484 and 99 of the Criminal Code, cap 17, vol. 2, laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Magistrate Judge, Mrs. M. B. Folami, granted them bail with the sum of N20,000 with one responsible surety.
The matter has been adjourned till 26 January, 2011 for hearing.
