A 23-year old security man, Ayi Sunday Aniya, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour by an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos South West Nigeria.
Ayi was sentenced to prison after pleaded guilty to two- count charge of felony and stealing which are punishable under section 516 (A) (1) and 390 of the criminal code cap C 17, Vol.11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The convict was accused of stealing a set of jewellery valued N3.1 million belonging to Mrs. Akingbogun Alaba of 6, Bode Joseph Street, Ifako, Gbagada, Lagos on 9 July, 2010.
He admitted stolen the items when arraigned before the court. Therefore, the magistrate of the court, Mr. P.A Ojo, Chief Magistrate 1, sentenced him to two years imprisonment without an option of fine.
However, the 25-year old man, Adamu Liman, who was accused of receiving the stolen jewellery from the convict pleaded not guilty to the two- count charge of felony and receiving the stolen item.
The charges against Liman are punishable under section 516 (A) (1) and 427 of the criminal code cap C 17 Vol. 11 laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
He was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the like sum by the court, while the case has been adjourned till 12 January, 2011 for trial.
