Lagos State basketball team currently in camp preparing for the National Sports Festival Zonal Elimination series have expressed confidence in picking the only ticket available for the zone when hostilities dunk-off in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Thursday.
The teams, both boys and girls, train twice daily at the Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba, Lagos, South West Nigeria.
One of the coaches working with the teams, Mark Balogun, told Basketball Timeout after one of their training sessions that with their output in training, the players have a good chance of picking the ticket ahead of their counterparts from Ogun and Oyo states.
Balogun, who led Lagos Boy’s team to win a sliver medal at the last National Sports Festival in Kaduna, said the players are responding to training well, adding that their chances of picking the tickets are very bright.
“The coaches are working very hard on the teams and the players are responding very well. I am very positive that our two teams will come back from Abeokuta with the tickets,†he boasted.
Utiman Ola Okuunu, Secretary of Lagos State Basketball Association, also told Basketball Timeout about the readiness of the teams for the zonal elimination.
He said the teams that resumed close camping a few weeks ago after about three months of open camping, will not disappoint the state when the series start on Thursday.
He said the teams will depart Lagos for Abeokuta on Wednesday, adding that the logistics have been put in place to make the teams have good outings in the tourney.
