Handset Thief Remanded In Prison

It appears sanity is gradually returning to Orile area of Apapa Iganmu Local Government barely two weeks after a notorious three-man gang, simply called ‘bullet’, was arrested by the police at Orile and transferred to the State Task Force Office, Alausa, Lagos State.

The three suspects who were alleged to often attack residents of the area with cutlasses and knives in order to rob them of their belongings such as handsets, hand bags, jewellery and other valuables around Moshalashi, Boundary and Orile Bus Stop have been arrested by the police at Orile Police Division and arraigned before a court.

The suspects were identified as Rashidi Rasaq a.k.a Jeyan meaning eat person, Chidi Offor and Malik.

Police alleged that the three suspects were arrested on 17 November, 2010 at about 0030 hours at Moshalashi bus stop while they were robbing members of the public.

Items recovered from them include two short cutlasses and three kitchen knives.

They were arraigned before Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of felony, stealing and snatching of hand sets, jewellery.

Count two and three read that you Rashidi Rasaq, Chidi offor and Malik on the same date time and place in the aforesaid district did steal Nokia hand set of Lawal Rasaq of 16, Str. Iganmu Road valued N18,000, while Rashidi and others on the 17 November, 2010 at about 0030 hours at Moshalashi Street, Orile did steal from one Ayi, a Nokia phone valued N20,000.

The suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges and the magistrate Mr. O.O Olatunji granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each with one surety in the like sum.

The magistrate also directed that the surety must be a blood relation with the address verified.

All the suspects were remanded at the Kirikiri maximum prison when they could not meet their bail conditions.
