The Benue State Police Command has arrested six suspected armed robbers, including a staff of the United Bank for Africa, UBA, in Bauchi State, Isacc Shina, over an alleged attempting to rob the bank of N200million.
Parading the suspects before journalists at the state police command headquarters, Makurdi, Benue State, the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed, explained that the police at Vandeikya got information that five young men were looking for arms and ammunition and swung into action.
The suspects were arrested along with two ladies, Sarah Audu and Amina Sadik.
The Benue police boss disclosed that the suspects confessed that they were contracted by a UBA Staff , Isaac Shina and one man called Lucky to rob the bank.
The police commissioner explained further that the suspects confessed that one of their contractors, Mr. Lucky of Jos town whom the police had declared wanted sold his car and gave them N290,000 to buy arms for their operation.
Mr. Mohammed further disclosed that the police took the suspects to the main branch of UBA in Bauch State, where the staff of the bank who gave them the map of the bank leading to the strongroom was waiting. He was promptly arrested.
Answering questions from newsmen, Mr. Mohammed said he has directed divisional police officers to beef up security in the state, especially during Christmas and New Year periods when criminals increase their activities.
