A group known as Nigerian Professionals with Disability/Challenges has tasked civil society, corporate organisation, government and concerned individuals to assist members of the association to live a better life.
The group made the call in a release signed by Rufai Yussuf, the group’s co-ordinator, which was made available to P.M.NEWS, on the solutions to the protracted challenges facing persons with disability.
The group said, “after taking stock and going down the history lane of 50 years of independence, it was concluded that the country has grossly mistreated and failed her citizens with disability and challenges.
“Nigerians and those in authority in corporate and civil governance must get it right this time by adopting without reservation and without hindrance, international best practices and behaviors towards persons with disability and physical challenges
.“We believe that the incomprehensible neglect, mistreatment and insensitively meted out to persons with disability/challenges will only become history when everyone concerned change their approach towards themâ€
The group is to mark this year’s International Day for Persons with Disability on 3rd December,2010 with the theme Roadmap to a Better Future at conference centre of Lagos State Teaching University.
