Team Lagos were at their best at the just concluded Zonal Elimination of the National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta and Sagamu in Ogun State, Nigeria.
Although, Lagos did not qualify for the football events in both male and female categories, they picked the male and female teams’ tickets in Handball and Basketball.
In Abula game, Lagos picked their tickets in male and mixed doubles, losing the female ticket to host, Ogun State.
In Volleyball, the female team of Lagos secured another ticket, while the result of the Hockey was still pending according to the organisers
Director of Sports in the Lagos State Sports Council, Dewunmi Ogunsanya, expressed satisfaction over the athletes’s performance. He said though, Lagos failed to qualify for the football event, he believes the athletes will do well at the forthcoming National Sports Festival.
However, Chairman, Lagos State Volleyball Association, Chief Owolabi Martins, was unhappy that his male team failed to book a place in the sports festival, which holds in Rivers State.
Martins said he would have loved to see both male and female teams qualify for the Volleyball event in the Zonal Elimination.
“I am not happy because our male team did not qualify for the festival. We prepared well but it’s unfortunate that the host state was hostile to us during the qualifiers,†he said.
