Two oil workers, Idowu Uwumaronig, 30, Ajayi Adesuyi, 33, have been charged with felony, forgery and stealing at an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Francis Igbinosa, dragged the suspects to court on a three-count charge of felony, forgery and stealing.
According to the police charge sheet, the three suspects stole N40, 000 litres of petroleum products valued at N2.6 million through a company to the prejudice of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, knowing full well that the document was forged.
The police said the offences were punishable under Sections 516, 467, 390(5) of the Criminal Code, cap C17, Vol. 11, laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty. The trial magistrate, Mrs. A. F. O. Botoku, admitted them to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties who must produce evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government.
The case has been adjourned till 21 December, 2010, for mention.
