Seven Hi-tech Construction workers have been arrested by the police at Isheri Oshun for stealing the company’s iron rods meant for the construction of Isheri-Oshun-Ijegun road, Lagos, Nigeria.
The defendants were alleged to have indulged in stealing the rods while the company continued to replace them until they were caught.
The workers, who are now remanded in prison custody pending when they would meet their bail conditions, include Lawrence Emmanuel, 29, Kenneth Emmanuel, 29, Aburieke Owen, 27, Rasheed Olarewaju, 28, Adex Adeleke, 27, Collin Njoku, 25 and 35-year old Umoh.
The defendants were caught when they attempted to cart away some pieces of iron rod worth N50,000.
They were charged to Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court where they pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate, Mrs. M. B. Folami, granted them bail in the sum of N25,000 with one responsible surety.
The matter has been adjourned till 20 December, 2010, while the defendants were remanded in Kirikiri Prison, Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria, pending when they will meet the bail conditions.
