Two men, Charles Isaku, 25 and Ishah Buba, 21, have been arrested by the police at Orile Police Division, Lagos, South West Nigeria and arraigned before a Surulere Magistrate’s Court for snatching a motorcycle from the owner.
The suspects were accused of snatching an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle from one Jamiulu Abamu on 10 November, 2010 at White Sand Market, Orile bus stop and drove it to Ikoyi in Eti Osa area of Lagos State to sell.
The victim was said to have quickly reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer at Orile Police Station.
The DPO was said to have directed his men to recover the motorcycle from the robbers at all cost.
The policemen, however, succeeded in recovering the motorcycle at Ikoyi, where the suspects were waiting for a buyer. They were arrested along with the motorcycle and brought to the police station.
They were charged to court on a one-count charge of felony to wit, stealing, an offence punishable under Section 516 and 390 of the Criminal Code Cap. C17, Vol. ii, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
Count two read “that you, Charles Ishaku and Isah Buba on the date, time and place in the Lagos Magistraterial District, did steal an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle valued at N80,000, property of one Jamiulu.
While the first defendant pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced by the presiding magistrate to one year imprisonment without an option of fine, the second defendant, Isah Buba, was discharged and aquitted.
