The Nigeria Customs Service FOU Zone A, Ikeja, Lagos, is searching for nine out of 11 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs that were recently cleared by agents at the Tin Can Island Port Lagos State.
Two of the 2010 model vehicles, which were underdecleared as 2006 model by the clearing agent, were seized while the service is still searching for the remaining nine.
Through investigation, the importers homes have been found but they are yet to be named.
The controller of the command, Comptroller Dede Kane, disclosed these facts to the press recently. He said that all the atrocities that the smugglers are committing must be checked.
According to Kane, the Nigeria Customs Service will not relent in its efforts to find the remaining nine SUVs bullet-proof vehicles which had a duty paid value of N40 million, but were cleared for just N120,000Â by the so-called agents .
Kane also said that the command had seized 65 vehicles from Tincan Island Port between January and October this year. Also to be punished are the officers who collaborated with the suspected importers of the released vehicles .
