A26-year old father of one, Paul Okonovo, has been allegedly shot dead by the police.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the deceased was shot dead inside a boat on Ogun River, Isheri, Ogun State.

Investigations revealed that Paul, a tiler, who lived at Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State, left his house on Sunday morning for his place of work. He was waiting by the riverside for a boat to take him to his place of work when he was allegedly shot dead by some policemen who stormed the area to arrest criminals.

According to his younger brother, David Okonovo, Paul was shot dead by some policemen from Ogudu Police Division who raided the area for criminals. The deceased, it was learnt, fell into the river and was never seen again until Tuesday when his corpse floated in the river. He was later taken to the mortuary.

“Immediately he was shot, we reported the killing at the Isheri Police Station but they told us to wait for the corpse to float before they can believe us.

“We are calling on the Inspector-General of Police to do justice to our case because my brother has a wife and a child that is one year and three months old. There is nobody to feed them,” David lamented.

When P.M.NEWS contacted the police at Ogudu division over the allegation, they denied the allegation. “There is no correlation between Ogudu and Isheri area of Ojodu- Berger area. Those places are out of our jurisdiction. We only cover Ogudu area up to the MKO Abiola Gardens. We do not go out of our area,” the DPO of Ogudu station told our reporter.
