Following epileptic power supply to their community occasioned by inadequate transformers, residents of Alhaji Bashiru, Lanre Ebegbure Ajalli, Jide Rowland, Akwa-Etiti, John Umunna and Isanlu streets in Ajao Estate, Isolo Local Council Development Area, Lagos State South West Nigeria, have appeal to the Lagos State Government and the authority of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), to supply more transformers.
The residents in a letter of request to the PHCN, Ministry of Rural Development, their representative in the House of Representatives, Mr. Joseph Ajatta, Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure and the Governor of Lagos State, signed by Pastor A. Oludele and Uzoma I. Onwubike, the CDA chairman and secretary respectively, said the affected streets have been serviced with one transformer for more than 25 years.
This, according to them, has subjected them to unwarranted blackout everyday.
“The above community is hereby requesting for 500KVA transformer to boost the existing one that has embarrassingly servicing seven streets for the past 25 years and even the load shedding introduced by PHCN is no longer workable because of the old age of the transformer,†the community stated in the letter, while appealing to the authority concerned and the state government to save them from continuous blackout.
In another development, the community’s residents association has completed rehabilitation of a culvert at Oredola Street which serves as link to Airport Road.
Speaking on the N.3 million project, Mr. Michael Ojejinmi, a member of the project committee, said the community decided to embark on the rehabilitation of the culvert which collapsed during the Ikeja Cantonment bomb blast as efforts to get it rehabilitated by the local council were futile.
Ojejinmi, however, thanked members of the community for contributing towards the project.
