Five men suspected to be thugs have been arrested and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly attacking the Osolo of Isolo, Oba Agbabiaka Kabiru at Akesan, a suburb of Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria.
The Osolo of Isolo was reportedly assaulted by a group of men armed with dangerous weapons when he went to Akesan to perform the burial rites for his late in-law. Some of his aides were also assaulted and their properties damaged by the accused.
Those arrested in connection with the assault include Ahmed Safari, 25, Ismaila Hassan, 19, Taoreed Olanrewaju, 22, Niyi Oni, 22 and Sodiq Biliaminu, 22.
P.M.NEWS gathered that midway into the programme, some men came to the venue and disrupted the programme. They allegedly pushed and shoved Oba Agbabiaka, destroyed the musical equipment and the vehicles which brought him and his aides.
They also threw away the food brought by Oba Agbabiaka’s wife to the programme. The matter was reported to the police at Igando Station and the defendants were arrested while others fled.
They were charged on an eight-count ranging from assault, malicious damage, breach of public peace and stealing, offences contrary to sections 351, 355 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge and the magistrate, Mrs. M. B. Folami granted them bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties.
The matter has been adjourned till 23 December for trial.
The defendants were remanded in prison at Apapa, Lagos when they could not meet the bail conditions.
