As the yuletide season approaches, one thing that is noticeably on the increase is scam of all types. Fraudsters in their bid to maintain their hype lifestyles are on the prowl to reap where they never sowed.
Currently, the attention of Consumer’s Advocate has been drawn to a fake winning text message being circulated with the official MTN number-0803.
The message reads: Dear customer; MTN Nigeria@ 50 result has been announced. Congratulation! You have won N1 million . (winning code o411) call 180 or MTN office 08130338540
Consumer’s Advocate checks revealed that MTN does not run any promo called Nigeria at 50. Our concern, however, is that the said fraudulent text message comes with the official MTN number making subscribers susceptible to the fraud. We call on MTN to investigate this fraudulent text emanating from its office. The MTN number accompanying the text should also be tracked down and the owner apprehended.
Meanwhile we advice all our readers to be wary of any text message telling them they have won a prize. You may be defrauded if you respond to such.
