Reporters Laud Lagos Fire Service

The Guild of Reporters attached to the Governor’s Office recently honoured the Lagos  State Fire and Safety Services for the good job they have been rendering to the  state.

Acknowledging the award in Alausa, Ikeja, the State Fire Service Director, Mr.  Adedayo Aderemi Ajose, connected their success to the ‘change process’ directly  initiated by the leadership of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN).

Being the first and major responder to any fire outbreak and other related emergency  in the state, it is on record that well over 1,010 calls were received and promptly  attended to by the state’s firemen, he disclosed.

The Directorate has, in the last few years procured and commissioned 16 new  specialised fire fighting vehicles, which include fire water tankers, rapid fire  intervention vehicles, and two brand new Bronto Skylift Aerial Laddar Vehicles.

It has also created seven additional mini fire stations in Lagos East, Eti-Osa,  Alimosho, Ikotun/Igando, Oriade, Apapa/Iganmu and Ojo Alaba market.

Eight Thermal Imaging Cameras were purchased to enable firemen detect objects in  dark and hidden areas, Breathing Apparatus (BA) and renovation of fire stations in  Alausa Headquarters, Ikeja, Agege, Ilupeju and Isolo have been recorded by the  directorate. Two hundred and fifty new firemen were also recruited.

“In order to keep our officers men at par with their counterparts across the globe,  we have ensured that they undergo constant training and retraining in various  relevant areas of the services. The State Fire Services have received numerous  letters of commendations from individuals and bodies across the country,” the Fire  Service stated.

According to Governor Fashola (SAN) the reward for hard work is more work. The State  Fire Service has reassured the entire state of their continued excellent service to  the good people of Lagos State by the grace of God.

The award was presented by the chairman of the occasion, former Governor of Ogun  State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, while Commissioner for Information and Strategies, Mr.  Opeyemi Bamidele, represented the governor at the occasion.
